Custom creations

I’ve been waiting to post photos of my custom orders until after Christmas to keep from spoiling anyone’s surprises. I’ve also been waiting to hear back from everyone I did orders for about the recipient’s reactions – so far, everything’s been a massive success. Yay, me!

excel gum commercial characters onion coffee garlic donut

The secret megawesome project - Excel/Extra gum commercial characters. In flannelette.

Don’t know who those characters are? Check out this clip to find out. Also, take a look at a couple of Australian commercials for the same gum (top right, under ‘Movies’). My fingers are quite thrilled that I wasn’t asked to do all the characters from those commercials.

The amount of work that went into these characters was insane. I thought it would be simple – four stuffed things. No problem. Oh, was I wrong… I went through 6 versions of the donut; the coffee cup had a lid that was tilting at a bad angle until I ripped it off and hot glue gunned it again; and I couldn’t figure out how to make the onion and garlic actually look like an onion and a head of garlic.

In the end, I’m quite happy I did them. They were received very happily and they look pretty awesome, if you ask me. And I’ll never make them again. Ever.

ETA, Apr 14, 2011: I’m happy to announce that the characters are available for purchase in my shop. Handmade, on demand, each character individually or as a group.

Custom eco felt ornaments

A friend requested three eco felt ornaments from my ArtFire shop made in red and green. Of course, this was right before Maddy and I came down with the flu. The freestyle design on the bird is by far my favourite embroidery pattern. Love, love, love.

Leafy print slim case, ordered to match the purse that was listed in my Cargoh shop.

I came up with the design for the slim case while shopping during back-to-school season. All the pencil cases looked the same and boring, really… so I decided to come up with one on my own. I’ve still got three in my Cargoh shop and can always do a custom order if requested.

Tote bag for a friend's mom...a slightly larger version of one I've got in my Cargoh shop, but with a pocket on the back for a cell phone.

I loved doing this tote. The felt I used for the exterior is one of my favourite materials – it’s soft, yet durable and quite lovely. A friend asked me to make this for her to give to her mother for Christmas. It took me 2 hours to do the back pocket, all because of the pleat. Now that I know how to do it – properly – I’m going to start using that technique in a lot more projects.

Purse for a friend to give as a gift to her niece.

The embroidery design on this purse is found here, one of my favourite embroidery pattern sites.

Eco felt cat nip toys.

Apparently, the cats were way more interested in the wrapping paper when they got these. I’m not upset by that.

I really liked doing these custom orders, and I’m hoping to be organized enough in the new year to start doing more of them. For the time being, if you’d like to order a custom piece, email me and I’ll see what I can do.
